Dedicated to providing Dignity, Peace
& Compassion for abandoned babies
"Never doubt that a small group of committed people can change the world; indeed it is the only thing that ever has" - Margaret Meade, AnthropologistThe Baby Grace Foundation is a not-for-profit volunteer group dedicated to bringing dignity, peace, love and compassion for the souls of abandoned & discarded newborn babies.
Our only goal is to honor the lives of newborn babies that did
not make it into this world safely. But ultimately we want to
prevent babies from being abandoned and left to die in dumpsters and
other unsafe places. We are focused in South Florida, but the
tragedies are happening everywhere. Our grassroots effort is
committed to creating a world where the idea of babies being
abandoned and dying alone - no longer exist.
Our mission is simple "May No Baby Leave This World Unloved"
The idea for this project started in November 20, 2006 when I read a newspaper article about a baby found in a construction debris dumpster in West Palm Beach, Florida. This story truly impacted me and was having a difficult time dealing with this story. Following the story in the news, left me feeling completely powerless and unable to do anything about it. Several articles appeared with stories of the search for the mother; others wondering why a mother would do this; even more about the autopsy & investigation. But the one story that started to clear the clouds away for me, was about the stand that the investigators; the owner of the recycling plant and the people who found her. They vowed that this baby will not disappear in a pauper's grave with only a number for an identity and a pile of ashes to say who she was. They vowed that she will have a proper burial, a name and a community that can call her their own. They named her Baby Grace.
This commitment of love and compassion showed up everywhere.
I did not want the memory of her life to just vanish. She did not
die in vain! So by honoring these babies, giving them a name and a
proper burial I feel I am bring honor & dignity to their lives and
to the life and memory of Baby Grace.
There are many wonderful organizations committed to preventing this
horrible and growing problem with "safe haven laws" and "Safe Haven"
shelters and baby drop-off programs. Many other organizations are
focused on helping the young girls and women to be able to see other
options.
You may ask why would I do this? Honestly - I don't know why! But what I saw missing and the place where I see that I can make a difference, is in honoring the life of a newborn that did not enter this world safely. I can honor them for their place in this world and for their contribution to our humanity. So what I commit to do is : Provide an identity (they are unwanted babies) so they do not end up as just a number in the coroner's files. Provide a proper burial so that their existence can be respected. Create a community that can call this baby their own & give meaning to the loss. Bring dignity to their life, their death & and their memory. Most of all, take care of them when there is no one else who can do it. That is the mission of the Baby Grace Foundation. We are dedicated to bringing dignity, peace, love and compassion to the souls of abandoned & discarded newborn babies. We do this as a first step in fulfilling our intention of creating a world where a baby will not die alone and so that "No Baby Leave This World Unloved." - That is what we are committed to for our world. - Pablo Solis, Founder
